CITIZEN INPUT WANTED
Regional Problem Solving Land Use Plan
Talent Middle School Library, Sept 7, 6:30 p.m.
· Do you care about how the Rogue Valley manages growth in the future?
· Do you care about air quality, or farmland, or traffic?
The Rogue Valley Council of Governments has sponsored a long-term land use planning project called Regional Problem Solving (RPS). Some of you may remember the NOW 2 project and survey from 2002. This next phase of the project seeks citizen input on a map of potential urban reserve areas that cities and the County have proposed to accommodate the expected population growth in the region. While the increasing numbers sound scary, we are presently experiencing rapid growth in population and especially notice the increased traffic congestion.
The RPS Project will allow us to better prepare for the increases we are experiencing. Two clear benefits will result. The Plan will provide a framework in which to consider new growth in the region. And transportation planning can recognize a longer planning time period that at present. Many other issues, including farmland retention and revision of urban services, will be affected by the RPS Plan.
The third of three regional open house presentations to describe the proposed urban reserve areas and to explain this regional process will be held in Talent on September 7, at 6:30 p.m., in the Talent Middle School Library.
Please come, to see the maps for yourselves, and to provide your comments to the RPS Policy Committee. The RPS Policy Committee will hold meetings in October to decide which urban reserve proposed areas to include in the Plan. The Plan must receive County and State approval, because the Plan is part of the state's land use planning program.
Come be part of this unique process!
