The third annual Global Conference on Business & Culture – How to Do Business with Mexico will feature our sister city relationship with Guanajuato, Mexico. The event is co-sponsored by the Ashland Chamber of Commerce, Southern Oregon University, City of Ashland and Wells Fargo. The purpose of the event is to learn from the experts how to navigate cultural differences, build relationships and do business with Mexico through special presentations and panel discussions.
• Honor the 40th anniversary of Ashland’s sister city relationship with Guanajuato, Mexico
• Hear from business, government and academic leaders from both countries addressing the strengthening of international partnerships in these current economic times through expanded trade and academic exchange.
• Learn from the experts how to bridge cultural differences, build personal relationships and do business with Mexico that will help enhance Oregon’s global competitiveness

The event will be held on the campus of Southern Oregon University. The Governors of Guanajuato and Oregon have been invited to participate as well as officials from academia, government and business. This conference will coincide with the 40th anniversary week of celebrations and will include numerous guests from Guanajuato in attendance.

Featured Morning Speaker: José Luis Romero Hicks In Mexico’s Federal Government, José Luis Romero Hicks was General Director for Housing Policy at the Ministry for Social Development and was a Board Member of the national oil company: Petróleos Mexicanos -PEMEX. During President Vincente Fox’s ¨transitional government¨, José Luis co-chaired the National Housing Policy Committee. He served as President and CEO of the Mexican Bank for Foreign Trade – BANCOMEXT- and as Chairman of Ocean Garden Products. He is a private legal, economic and financial consultant, member of the Board of Trustees of the University of Guanajuato, Managing Partner of the Law Firm Romero Hicks & Galindo, a member of the Mexican Council on Foreign Affairs and provides regular national radio and television commentary in Mexico.
José Luis was Planning and Finance Secretary of Guanajuato State Government under Governor Vincente Fox and was Economic Counselor to Mexico’s Embassies in India and Japan. His professional and personal endeavors have let him serve as CFO of one of Mexico’s top 10 housing companies, President of his home town’s Food Bank and President of the Guanajuato Institute for Political Science and Public Administration.

Guanajuato Inland Port (Puerto Interior) The GTO Inland Port is a place of infrastructure convergence away from the sea coasts that facilitates the loading and unloading of freight cargo, storage, grouping and distribution of raw materials, intermediate and finished goods, that takes advantage of the convergence of different transportaton means in a single place.
